"Run towards the future without forgetting the past"
University of Stavanger
I am currently a Full Professor in Biomedical/Medical Engineering/Technology at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Stavanger, Norway, working on Machine Learning, Human Activity Recognition (HAR), Active and Assisted Living (AAL), Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), and AI-driven sensor systems for proactive healthcare. I obtained my Ph.D. in Computer Science in May 2020 under the supervision of Prof. Graziano Pravadelli, with a thesis on "An IoT-based Virtual Coaching System for Assisting Activities of Daily Life".
I am a co-founder of the IoT for Care (IoT4Care) research group at the University of Verona, and a member of the Biomedical Data Analysis Lab (BMDLab) and the Stavanger AI Lab (SAIL) at UiS. I also serve as Associate Editor of the IEEE Sensors Journal.
I currently serve as Program Chair of IEEE COINS 2026 — the IEEE International Conference on Omni-Layer Intelligent Systems, University of Bologna, September 7–9, 2026.
